Welcoming consistency in 2026

Thoughts from Mastercraft Kitchens Wellington co-owner Tony Hawes

Our business has experienced another challenging but solid year, as we continue to navigate what is proving to be an inconsistent market. We have found similar ebbs and flows being reported by our trusted suppliers.

A notable change we have seen in recent times is the reconfiguration of our market base, with private retail work now representing about half of our sales compared to only about 20% a year or two ago. While some of this will be due to natural market forces, it is also a reflection of the strategic decision we made in the middle of last year to ramp up our presence with the general public through a variety of marketing initiatives.

And on that score, we have just launched a promotion to drive up further orders before Christmas. This entails a $2000 allowance towards any Fisher & Paykel appliances ordered from the Mastercraft Shop for any renovation projects that are signed up by 17 December (terms and conditions apply).

As is mentioned further in this E-newsletter, we are continuing to get our house fully in order through various business improvement initiatives. This should ensure we have both a happy team and a streamlined operation to best position us to handle the busier times when they return – and they will!

Speaking of our much-valued staff, in line with our company policies, we have implemented a 3% wage increase to try and help keep up with the cost of living. We’re all noticing that living costs continue to rise rapidly and people are finding things hard, so as a company where we can afford to provide some relief, we do that.

We remain optimistic that given certain positive economic indicators – such as the recent interest rate drops and expectations of more to come – that people will have more confidence to spend and the market will pick up further in the New Year. We are certainly noting an increase in the number of quotes we are providing – the market is showing signs of life – so hopefully we can all look forward to greater consistency and solidity in 2026 and beyond.

Thank you again to our work family for another year of dedication and commitment to the business – you are all very much appreciated – and of course to our valued customers, suppliers and other trusted partners.

Have a fantastic Festive Season break and we look forward to seeing and working with you again in the New Year.
