Decluttered delight

A previously cramped Miramar kitchen has flourished into a beautifully-modern and spacious layout by Mastercraft Kitchens Wellington designer Maria.

The customer already had the vision of removing a door to the kitchen to provide greater space as well as the overall renovation concept. However, one of Maria’s key contributions was to have the room open invitingly on one side through creation of a coffee station rather than into full-length cabinetry.

Above the coffee station a microwave has been seamlessly blended into a symmetrical cabinetry design, which also neatly accommodates an existing roof support beam.

A previously-cluttered arrangement of cabinetry around an oven and microwave – which created access issues – has been completely absorbed on the other side of the room. This also led to the oven and hob now being relocated together next to a spices drawer.

The dated angled pantry design was squared off, creating room for a tray cupboard below the bench and more bench space. Other subtle design touches included downlighting in the pantry and replacing a set of external drawers on the breakfast bar with a hidden cupboard to accommodate additional seating.

With the customer after a clean and simple look, handleless detail was used to effectively create a smooth horizontal seam around the kitchen. The kitchen’s new Bramco Quantum Quartz Luna White 30mm benchtop on top of Melteca Melamine Snowdrift White cabinetry now sweeps interrupted from the pantry right through to the end of the breakfast bar, creating much more work space and clean lines to the eye.

Overall storage has also been increased – including through a deeper and wider drawer option – and the kitchen is now fully functional, with the aqua hero wall tile contributing to a brighter, spacious, modern result.
